The World Safety Organization offers a broad selection of professional certifications for Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health professionals worldwide. The prerequisite for obtaining any of the WSO Professional Certifications is a current Affiliate membership with the WSO.
WSO PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
WSO Certified Safety Executive
A safety practitioner in an executive position who has in-depth knowledge of safety programs and is responsible for establishing safety policies and methods for their organization.
WSO Certified Safety Manager
Accomplishes the supervision and management of safety activities at the middle-manager level; enforces policies, supervises training, and coordinates safety programs.
WSO Certified Safety Manager (Construction)
Similar to the regular WSO-CSM, but credentials those with safety experience in construction; the exam is designed for construction rather than general industry work.
WSO Certified Safety Specialist
Specializes in a specific area of safety such as fire, transportation, nuclear, hazardous materials, product, health care, electrical, drilling, mining, or ladder safety.
WSO Certified Safety & Security Director
Responsible for the safety and security of people, property, resources, or environment — security must be one of the segments covered.
WSO ENTRY LEVEL CERTIFICATIONS
WSO Certified Safety Technician
An entry-level designation for specialists in safety-related disciplines (fire science, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, nuclear safety, loss control, etc.).
WSO Safety Certified Construction Supervisor
Certifies current and aspiring construction supervisors who meet field experience and formal Health, Safety & Environmental training requirements.
WSO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS CERTIFICATIONS
WSO Certified Hazardous Materials Technician I
Evaluates a hazardous materials worker or first responder's skills to detect, identify and classify hazardous materials and handle minor incidents.
WSO Certified Hazardous Materials Technician II
Evaluates professional expertise handling hazardous materials at an identifiable level, building on Level I with an advanced training program.
WSO Certified Hazardous Materials Supervisor
For an individual who supervises storage/handling of hazardous materials, or two or more emergency response teams.
WSO Certified Hazardous Materials Executive
Responsible for developing and implementing programs for hazardous materials handling, transportation, waste and storage operations, including emergency response.
WSO BOARD OF CERTIFIED SAFETY INSTRUCTORS
WSO Certified Safety Instructor — Basic Level
Covers the elementary aspects of instruction: basic public speaking, use and control of audio-visual aids, handling distractions and difficult students.
WSO Certified Safety Instructor — Senior Level
Requires demonstrated proficiency in four types of presentations: formal briefing, informal briefing, verbal report, and classroom instruction.
WSO Certified Safety Instructor — Master Level
The highest instructor level: demonstrated proficiency in program development, presentation, media choice, documentation, and continuity.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
All applications for WSO certification shall be on forms prescribed and furnished by the WSO Certification Board. Processing shall conform with procedures prescribed by the WSO Certification Board. All applicants must be either an Affiliate or Professional Member of the WSO. All approved applicants for certification will have to take an exam.
